At The Excel Institute, Volkswagen Group of America donates funds and vehicles for life skills and technical training, helping to train students for high-demand, high-paying jobs in the automotive service industry. The partnership supports Excel’s most significant expenses, related to life and employability skills such as computer literacy and one-on-one academic tutoring. Volkswagen and Audi technicians also train the Excel Institute automotive technology teachers about new technologies, maintenance, and repair. Volkswagen Group of America and The Excel Institute are developing reciprocal shadowing and hosted seminar opportunities for employees and students to visit job sites.
To date, this support has enabled approximately 225 students to participate in the Excel Institute’s Life Skills program. Ninety-nine percent of the students who began the Inner Journey component of the Life Skills program have completed. Seventy percent of the students who began Life Skills have completed. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is currently evaluating the Inner Journey Training with the intent of replicating the model throughout the country.
