Employees Get Involved In The Community

Our employees have great stories to tell, including all the wonderful things they are doing for local communities.

Emily Lawless
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.
Transportation Procurement Analyst
Herndon, Va.

Since 2005, Emily Lawless has been volunteering with Team in Training (TNT), which is an endurance sports training program that benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). It’s the largest fundraiser for the society and supports LLS’s mission, which is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and Hodgkin’s disease, and to support patients and their families. TNT provides coaching, training, fitness plans, nutrition clinics and more for individuals in return for raising money to support LLS. Emily is training six days a week with her team for the Pocono Half Ironman triathlon in Pennsylvania on October 2. This race consists of a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride and a 13.1-mile half marathon run, with only eight hours total to complete the entire event.

Emily has been supportive of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for more than six years and joined in celebration of her husband Todd’s remission from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Check out Emily’s personal website to learn more and make a donation if you’d like!

John Ellefson
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.
General Manager, Customs Operations
Herndon, VA

John has been selected to participate in the 2011 Carter Work Project with Habitat for Humanity. This will be a one weeklong trip to build houses in earthquake-ravaged Haiti, alongside former President Jimmy and First Lady Rosalynn Carter. John is using a week of vacation for the trip, which takes place November 5-12, 2011.

As part of the project, his goal is to raise $5,000, which helps pay for the trip and all of the building supplies needed for the project. Below are links to the Carter Work Project page, as well as to John’s personal project page. Everyone is welcome to make donations to the project through the website.
